Image & text

Whilst looking for work by photographers that combine image and text I came across the work of Cocoa Laney, an American documentary photographer currently based in Southern US and the UK. Her series Whole House Held is a collaboration with British documentary photographer Adam Razvi and has been made in response to the coronavirus lockdown.

The series is shot at a safe distance through windows and doorway using medium format film, which given the slower nature of the process, gives the photographer more time to ineract and develop a relationship with the sitters. Each household was asked to write on a single piece of paper things that gave them comfort during the lockdown period. These were then combined with the images.

The complete series can be found at http://cocoalaney.com/whole-house-held.

I think this is an imaginative response to the coronavirus pandemic and a good illustration of how image and text can be used together.
