As part of my research for assignment three, I searched online for contemporary photgraphers producing self-portraits. One of the photographers I came across was Rosie Hardy. From looking at her website, www.rosiehardy.com, it appears as though Hardy is primarily a commercial photographer, however, within her portfolio is a selection of images from her 365 Days series, a self-portrait shot everyday for a year.
Whilst the series does not particularly appeal to me, I’m not too fond of composite images created in Photoshop, I was impressed, not only with her Photoshop skills, but also with the work that must have gone into creating these images.
Because of the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus lockdown I will be shooting a series of self portraits for assignment three and I am keen to try and incorporate the feedback from my assessment for Conext & Narrative which high-lighted the benefit of creating images with a degree of ambiguity to enable viewers to create their own narratives. I’ve realised that in order to do this it is necessary to contruct images and that this requires a greater degree of planning and forethought than I ususally employ.
Although not of all Hardy’s images appeal to me, I admire the amount of planning that must have gone into coming up with the concepts, finding locations, shooting all the elements and then creating the final images.
